Established in 2016, Baba Chews is a modern Asian restaurant in the heart of Katong-Joo Chiat, where contemporary technique meets the deep culinary heritage of the neighbourhood. We cook with the full breadth of Asia’s flavour traditions, and Peranakan classics are woven through the menu as the heritage layer that keeps uss honest about where we are.
We sit inside the former Joo Chiat Police Station (1928 – 1987), a conserved heritage building at 86 East Coast Road, Katong Square – one of Singapore’s most distinctive dining addresses. A 5-minute walk from Marine Parade MRT (TE26), and open daily from 6.30am to 10.30pm.
In 2026, Baba Chews opens a new chapter. The updated menu brings modern Asian cooking to the front: Nasi Lemak Risotto with King Prawns, Singapore Chilli Crab Bao, Pomelo Chicken Salad, Black Pepper Squid & Octopus, Char Siew Pork Ribs, and Ayam Buah Keluak Fried Rice. Desserts – Gula Melaka Burnt Cheesecake, Matcha Tiramisu, Pandan Creme Brulee – close the menu with familiar Asian flavours in unexpected forms.
This is modern Asian dining, Katong-born. Come hungry.

Food & Beverage, Operations Manager
Baba Chews is built inside a building that has been watching Katong change for nearly a century. The former Joo Chiat Police Station, constructed in 1928, gives the restaurant a physical character that no amount of interior design can manufacture: the quiet authority of a conserved heritage structure.
Inside, the palette is a modern – warm, bright, and delibrately un-precious. The room is designed for the kind og meals that go longer than planned: a business lunch that becomes a second round of cocktails, a catch-up brunch that stretches into the afternoon. There is an alfresco pet-friendly terrance in the Hotel Indigo Garden for those who prefer the evening air.
The food matches the space: rooted in place, forward-looking in execution. Modern Asian cooking with Peranakan classics running through the menu – not as a musuem piece, but as living, evolving cuisine that knows exactly which neighbourhood it comes from.

The Hotel Indigo Garden is the alfresco extension of Baba Chews – an open-air terrance where leashed pets are welcome and the pace slows down. It is where sharing plates make more sense than individual orders, and where Katong’s evening air does most of the work.
Pet-friendly. Open daily. No reservations required for the garden.
For private dining, the garden can be arranged for groups and events.
