Baba chews occupies the former Joo Chiat Police Station (1928-1987) - a conserved heritage building at 86 East Coast Road, Katong Square. The space give your event something most venue cannot offer: genuine character, a genuinely interesting address, and food worth talking about.
We accomodate corporate dinners, birthday celebrations, wedding lunches, team gatherings, and brand events. Indoors and alfresco. Seated or cocktail-style. Weekdays and weekends.
The Food
Our Kitchen serves modern Asian cuisine with Peranakan classics woven through the menu - the same food available to all our guests, brought to your table in formats that suit your event.Set menus are available for private dining, drawing from the current à la carte menu: Nasi Lemak Risotto with King Prawn, Singapore Chilli Crab Bao, Ayam Buah Keluak Fried Rice, Pomelo Chicken Salad, Char Siew Pork Ribs. Desserts include Gula Melaka Burnt Cheesecake, Pandan Crème Brûlée, and Matcha Tiramisu.
Speciality coffee from Common Man Coffee Roasters and TWG Tea are available throughout. Full bar service with cocktails , wines, and beers.
The Space
Baba Chews offers two distinct settings for private events:Indoor dining - 70pax seated, air-conditioned, with architectural character of heritage building. Well-suited for seated dinners, corporate lunches, and presentations.
Hotel Indigo Garden - 30pax seated, our open-air alfresco terrace. Pet-friendly, relaxed in atmosphere, and well-suited for cocktail receptions, informal gatherings, and evening events.
Both spaces can be configured for buffet service, plated menus, or family-style sharing. Our events team will work with you on layout, AV requirements, and any specific setup needs.
Alfresco Events - Pets Welcome
The Hotel Indigo Garden welcomes leashed pets, if your group includes four-legged guests, the garden is the right choice - open air, relaxed, and large enough for small to mid-size gatherings.

How many guests can Baba Chews accommodate?

Is there a minimum spend for private dining?
Minimum spend requirements vary depending on the space, day of the week, and event format. Our events team will share full details when you submit an enquiry.
Do you offer set menus for private events?
Yes. We offer curated set menus drawn from our current Modern Asian menu, including dishes such as Nasi Lemak Risotto with King Prawn, Singapore Chilli Crab Bao, Ayam Buah Keluak Fried Rice, and Char Siew Pork Ribs. Custom menus can be discussed for larger groups.
Can I bring an external cake?
Yes, external cakes are welcome. A corkage fee may apply. Please let us know in advance when you submit your enquiry so we can arrange accordingly.
Is the venue pet-friendly?
Yes. Leashed pets are welcome in the Hotel Indigo Garden, our open-air alfresco terrace. Indoor dining spaces are not pet-accessible.
Is AV equipment available?
Please discuss your AV requirements with our events team when submitting an enquiry. We will advise on what is available in-house and what you may need to arrange independently.
